Round 1 Preview - Caldy - Sunday 2nd April

Postby Adam Roper » Fri Mar 24, 2017 3:12 pm

Here we go then........... The 2017 WSF Summer League gets underway on Sunday 2nd April at Caldy.

The main quarry should be Flounder with big lengths possible if the fish are present in numbers however if fish are few and far between then you could give yourself the edge by doing something different or paying attention to the small details in order to find a bite when others can't. Two years ago it fished its head off with over 100 Flounder caught between 12 anglers, however last year saw the winner take the spoils with only two fish, that's fishing and you have to be prepared to get the best result you can with the conditions you face on the day!

Plaice are also taken from this venue and as such these are the bonus species for this match. Any Plaice caught have their length doubled for the overall match length scoring so a 40cm Plaice would be recorded as 80cm on the match card.

Booking on will be in the car park at the waters edge from 12:00 - 12:30. This is a High water match and as such this match will be Pegged.

All in will be at 13:00 fishing until 17:00. High Water is 15:35.

Looks like it's going to be a nice day now to start series of match off. Makes a change from wearing a waterproof jacket and thermals.

For anyone new to Caldy,it can be hectic very early on,if the fish are there in numbers,so have a few spare rigs baited and ready to go. The flounders are close behind the incoming water,so you can bang a few out in the first few casts if they`re on the feed....messing about sorting rigs out will cost you

Looking calm sunny and still on the day , but it's blowing up on the Thursday before. If the water is still coloured could be plenty of flounder , , but if the colour drops out the water , should be a few plaice . Be careful in the mud and on the rocks. Bait wise could be anything although rag or blow lug can fish well there at this time of year especially tipped with mackerel
