We`re not fishing the Broadway mussel beds Gazz....we`re on West End beach. As i`ve said before,i have not fished this venue before, but going on my research and with the valuable info given by Rushy, there are a couple of options. The plaice appear to favour the left end where mussel beds are found in the channel,so the sooner you can put your baits in the feeding zone, the better your chances. The beach slopes off fairly quickly,so being able to wade out and cast, will improve your chances early on.The depth is greater the closer you get to the platform on the right, which means fish might hold up there for longer, and casting, especially early on,should not be as much of an issue....thigh waders would be my choice coz my chesties are leaking  wellies might be fine, but then again.....

We are back on the bonus fish for this match, with plaice being the target. When filling in your score sheet you should put down double the length if you catch a plaice....

Flounder................32cm.........running total..........32cm
Plaice.....................80cm.........running total..........112cm
and so on........when filling in the "longest fish" section on the bottom of your sheet,in this instance you would write 40cm.
Don`t forget to bring a pen,a measure, the correct money if entering the £6 optional pool, and if it`s your first match, read the rules and if there`s anything you don`t understand, just ask. For any new anglers, match fishing can seem to be a bit daunting or complicated, but all of the lads are very helpful and friendly and will readily give you any hints/tips to help you get the hang of things. One of the obvious pointers from the last match, was to watch what`s going on...don`t be afraid to go and have a look at other anglers rigs/baits,and if some are catching then don`t be afraid to move to find the fish.....sometimes your peg can start well then go quiet...moving 50yds might put you back on the fish.

Had a recce today...4 plaice 1 whiting 1 codlet for me...4 plaice 2 flounders for Tony...couple of whiting for Mick....easy 10 min walk from the shelter to the water line....wellies will be fine....expect some grassy weed early on...sport died an hour before low,so being able to entice a fish to feed in the second half of the match will probably be key .....the "meeting shelter" is almost opposite the POLO TOWER.

If it helps, when you come off the M6,follow for Morecambe A683 then pick up th A589...you will come to a roundabout where the first exit is signed for West Promenade WESTGATE just follow that road all the way to the prom, where you turn right and you will see the shelter/polo tower @ 400yds further on.
