Got the non-mag 7HT last year and love it for light/clean beach work. Was put off the mag version when researching them by so many reports from people warning against them and how difficult they were to use but I'm sure there will be people on here using them who might feel differently

Had one for a while, does exactly what it says on the box. Never had an over run comfortable 100 metre cast even for me

Rain, Wind, Cold they only matter when you blank!

I have 4 of them and love them but hard to do a small cast with them as they tend to overrun. I use an inner tube so I can thumb the spool for short casts

I am quite impressed with the new penn525 mag2, cast well

forgot to mention the only problem I have with the 7ht's is the side plate on the handle side. if you crank them with big fish the two part start to move so have to open them up and push the flange back in place.
penn's are complete not separate parts so don't have this problem.

Have you considered a 6HM?VGC+ models abound on ebay-convert an untouched example and you have a great casting reel with the option of a rachet.

I have one, and love it. In my option all the 7HT reels are good for casting, however don't use them on rough ground or in heavy weed.

I don't think they're much use on most Mersey marks. Loose a lot more leads on ledges and snags because you can't get the retrieve speed of say a mag 525. Even with a lead lift. Cleans beaches it's my go to reel.

If you want to buy a 7HT mag, give Andrew at Alan Price Tackle and Bait.
I was in the shop last week, and some GREAT Prices on reels, unbeatable.
I have a 7HT Mag, and love it, saving now to buy another
