Cracking little session on a picturesque new venue for us. Fished 1.5hrs up to the 7.4m, 7.12pm high and 1.5 down. Small tides didn't fill us with optimism for anywhere else so thought we had nothing to lose rekkying a new venue but bites from the off here close in with small bits of frozen lug on size 4 flappers, tipped with dendraboena or prawn. Eels galore (up to 10oz) up to the high, quiet over high then flounder to 36cm (and a surpise 1.75lb chub!) on the ebb. Will be back!

After blanks in the cold weather at Otterspool and perch Rock once the sun arrived it was time for the annual April trip to the Douglas. it was cold when we arrived at 07:50 am but it soon warmed up once 08:30 arrived and the rods went in. In the 90 minutes before high tide we caught 12 flounder with four over 2lbs. They must be hungry cos the 1/0 hooks were swallowed deeply and were hard to shift. Things stayed pretty good for the next 90 minutes as another 8 were landed. It was brilliant to be out and catching. By the end our coats were off and we were actually sweating! I finished with 12 and Clive landed 8. There were about another 15 rods out. Tight lines -flounders landed now bring on the bass!

Went down to the river Douglas for a few hours with my mate Greg, fist time I have managed to get down here, very nice spot to fish, however a word of warning DO NOT I repeat DO NOT venture out onto the mud flats between the river and the bank, I dropped some gear onto the mud flats and jumped down to retrieve same, I instantly dissapeared past the top of my wellies in the gloopy black shite and got thoroughly stuck, after cries for help to the long suffering mate Greg who was googling motorhomes on his I Phone, I was extircated from said Black Gloopy Shite minus One Welly. After much deliberation a bit of driftwood and much pulling said welly was retrieved and cleaned in a nearby stream. The fishing adventure continued and on the incoming tide I had a double header of the worlds smallest eel about 6 inches long and a decent flounder, followed by Greg landing a very nice flounder over 1.5 lb all fish were taken on a mixture of Lug , mussel and squid strips, using two hook flattie rigs with attractors ans small hooks. Once again I reiterate if you are fishing here do not go onto the mud flats be especially careful if you are taking the kids with you. Got a match with the club next week at Burbo Blank ( Hall Rd ) let you know how we get on

Report:

Bad days fishing after last week. It was breezy, raining and miserable. The tide was 1.5m lower than last weeks 9m+, maybe thats why the fishing wasn't up to scratch. Even varied casting distances from 40 yards out to the middle of the river had no effect atall, not even a knock. Bumped into Davey Boy on the bank, and he'd had no luck either. Hope next times better. Tight Lines.

Had 6 fish (4 keepers) all on lug in quick succession. 2 Plaice, and 4 Flounder from 1 1/2 to 2lb in weight. 4 other lads out, but never had too much luck, and only caught small flatties and 1 keeper. Great afternoon out, a bit breezy, but the sun was out.. Tight Lines. Tom & Paul.

Arrived at the river only to realise we had left the flattie rigs at home. Not a good start so ended up chopping up some pennels that we had in the tackle box to make do. Fished 2 up 1 down, only one plaice caught on the final retrieve, tiny but it saved a blank! The flattie rigs are now in the tackle box ready to give it another try next week! Tihgt lines.

Bait: Black Lug

Report:

Nothing to do with guide Rd but we dont have a pointer for Southport pier yet "HINT". As i've said previously, it is worth a trip on tides above 9m. Plenty of flounders been caught this week, plus lots of eels averaging 11/2 Lbs. Good spots are anywere of the end or right hand corner. There is a deep channel of the right hand side, but its pritty much out of range to all but the longest casters. Dont let this put you of though, because you can catch by just dropping your bait over the side,(Worth a try for the big plaice wich go to 2Lbs). Other fish which can be caught of the pier are Bass(Up to 4Lbs this year), whiting, pouting, Plaice and Dabs..

Bait: Smelly Black & Mac

Report:

To big a tide to fish Guide Rd so went to Southport Pier. Just the two of us with three rods. Fished strait of the end, and Ian fished of the right corner towards the know distant channel. Nothing till dead on high water and pulled in a sizable flounder in very good nick. Kept getting very quick pulls on a rolling lead rig when i twitched it back. But nothing else to show for the day. Ian had a few quick knocks to, but did not connect with anything though. Had a good day a few weeks ago here on the biggest tide of the year. There were lots of small plaice around then so dont write The pier off. Its still worth fishing. Plenty of Bass, Flounders, Plaice and Eels caught here last year. Just make sure you time your trip on a bigger tide, (9mtr Plus).
