Fished 2 hours up and 30 mins down....very slow until 30 mins before high when a couple of good pulls resulted in a nicely coloured male thorny of 3-2-0,then the crabs came out to play.

Fishing the ray match from 4.15 til 8.15 but got down around 12.30pm to have a go for some dabs as the weather was boss.....quiet until an hour after low when dabs started to feed and Jaygo took a dog.....during the match it was all out for rays with squid baits but no sign other than another couple of dogs for me....been very disappointing for the rays so far this year.

Fished off the platform with Sven...river was like a mill pond...no sign of life until i lifted my rod just to re-bait,and got a big surprise when something started pulling back !! A very large ray was on...got it to the wall and it was obvious that without a drop net it was gunna be very difficult to land....sure enough as Sven started to pull it up the wall my hook length snapped....gutted to lose it but at least we both seen it.....thought we would have had more action on an ideal tide,but apart from a dab for Sven it was poor.

Fished from 6.45am til 10.30am from Richard Head Corner....alternating between a pennel rig with razor and a 2 hook flapper with lug tipped with razor....had a few dabs on the lug but not a sniff on razor....either the rays were not feeding or they don`t like razor.....lovely morning to be out and had the fortune to see a porpoise heading up the river.

After a 2hr journey (stuck in traffic on the M60) got to the Alex only a couple others fishing and was told that a couple of codling that where keepers had been caught. Started off by catching whiting straight from the start along with dabs as well, also a fat undersized codling in fact all the fish I caught seemed to be well fed. A cold night but enjoyable

Upstream of markx, but not as far as the Alex. Big stretch I know but regulars could probably guess where. -1.5LW+5. Gorgeous christmas day. Nothing else but small codling (and plenty of them). Largest no more than 11 inches. Went dead on low (normally the dabs fill the gap - but not a sign), then came back on the feed once the flow started again.

What an amazing night, we arrived to find no wind and rain. Was like a summer night. Fish right from the off in this 3 hour match on a venue that was fishing well. With whiting and dogs the main stay and a couple of dabs for good measure. It was none stop action for 3 hours making this match the most enjoyable for a long time. fished 2 down and 2 up, first knock within 5 mins. whiting all night. i had five keepers about 10 smaller whiting and around another 10 knocks that either i missed or lost. i couldnt keep up with two rods as i was realing one in and the other was going mad lol. no other fish apart from whiting. early on the were going for the lug and then the squid but none to the mackrel.

Fished from 2pm til 7.45pm (high water 6.10pm at 24.9ft) with Steve and Jaygo....we hoped the neap tide would encourage the rays to feed a bit earlier and Steve had the first 2 1/2 hours before high....steady sport followed with a few fish lost whilst being pulled up the wall,along with a few missed bites....only squid baits got touched...final scores 4 rays for Jaygo,3 for myself and 2 for Steve.....sadly Steve lost his gear late on even though his rod stand was tied to the rail on the wall with a bungee strap...the ebbing tide and a good ray bite bounced it free and over the edge....if fishing the platform you must try to secure your gear and stay close by at all times.

I was rewarded with my 1st Alexandra Dock Wall thornback ray after finally getting my dock pass. Only a littleun but was well chuffed. Very Happy Caught on a rap of quid and slither of fresh joey mackerel that had washed up near the T-groin. Nothing on the sainsbury's mush.

Fished with Roger on Merlin, Club trip from BNFL SSRA. 8 fished just out of the marina in the main channel, stayed there all day river pretty choppy with the northerly wind and 28 ft tide. Fishing slow caught whitings and Dabs best whiting 40cms to Pete Ramsden. Reports of 2 codling from channel near Waterloo Dock on Supreme to 5lb otherwise quite a poor day on all boats.

18 fished match, but most struggled. I fished toward the lock gates, and that seemed to be the only area that produced a few fish. It was slow until a big ship came in, and two of us pulled in doggies. I then dropped another fish, and missed a run on the conger rod. Lee "chokeychokes", won with two doggies and a whiting. I finnished second and got biggest fish with a 62cm doggie.... Looks like they will be thick on the ground over the next few weeks, probably with the whiting!!!

Fished the dock sunday with a good few from the southport club. Absolute pants. Had fresh peeler, which the crabs just loved aswell as any other bait u put down there. Out of all those rods one lucky fella spawned a ray in that was it all day. Cant wait till the crabs feck off!

Good turn out for this match on a small tide. Bit of a strange night!!! Few Dabs to start of with, then when the tide slack'nd right off i hooked what i thought was one of the ships coming in to dock>>>>. It turned out to be a nice Conger, but disaster struck. Just as we got the drop net down to it, my line got stuck on an old rope link on the sea wall and she was away. Then another conger was lost! Kev Gould who was fishing next to me landed a nice ray, then a sole!!! There were several rays lost along the wall. Out of 25 who fished, there were 18 blanks. Kev Gould won with 2 Dabs 1 Sole and the ray...

Fished match with 15 club members. Sea flat calm on a lovely balmy evening. Went all out for a Ray, but no show. Thought at least one would have shown. A smattering of Dabs and whiting were caught, but generaly slow. Right on high water i stuck half a mac in down the side, because nothing else was happening. Just before the all out started to see small taps on the tip from what i thought were crabs. Then the rod just kept going and all hell let loose!!! 41/2 foot of very angry conger on the other end was not having any of it. After a few hair raising moments with the dropnet, roughly 10-15LB of conger was brought on to the wall. "I WAS ONLY ALLOCATED 35cm" I ended up with74CMs,125CM won the match!!!!!

Fished Mersey Harbour Board match with seven of the Southport lads. Most of us drew half way along wall. First half of match was very slow, but as if a light had been switched on,every one started to put a few fish together. Mainly Whiting and Dabs were being caught. Only heard of one Codling of 45cms being caught by Sean, one of our lads. Top bag was 419cms, with a couple around 390cms taking second and third. Top bag over the weekend was around 440cms. Our top two bags were 291cms caught by yours truly. Just 2cms behind Vinny with 289cms. We both had ten fish each. It was a shame to see so many big Whiting floating past dead and the litter left behind. " YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE". The Whiting need to be lowered back on grip lead as they dont cope well with long drop back....

For a change we decided to fish low water.So with some freshly pumped lug off the four of us went. We all fished the section were the wall is in front of you, between the first and third flood light. With in seconds of the baits hitting the water we were in to fish. First out was a nice codling of about 2 3/4 LB. Then the dabs arrived in force, with a smattering of whiting. Kev the jammy b%*$ then pulled out another nice codling, a similar size to his first. Then at low water it was Jasons turn, a fish of about a couple of pound. Me and lionel just had to settle for a few nice whiting and dabs. A good session was had by all! We ended up with about 40 fish between us, but there wasn't another sole to be seen!!!

Thought on high water we might have got one or two Rays, but you guest it, even more Doggies. Top two bags in this comp were 980cm consisting of 22fish& 640cm (11fish) took second. Most caught at least half a dozen Doggies.....

Fished from 10.30am till 2pm,no bites till right on high tide, Brians rod dipped,couldnt budge it at first,then used boat tactics,heave the rod up and wind in on way down,after ten minutes we managed to get the Ray to the wall just clear of the water,it was about 3 foot across,tried to hand ball it up the wall, line snapped.then we caught a 1lb flattie. dissapionting but exciting.

16 turned out for this match,but sodslaw, so did the dredger. It worked the wall for about half the match. A Dab and a Sole won the match, with a Dab taking second place. The only other thing of interest caught was a small Thornie of about 2LB.... A couple of lads turned up for a session,saw the dredger and said it would kill the fishing for a week, then went to the pub. I thought it was bad enough without the dredger.......

fished the wall saturday afternoon with mark allanson. No one else down there. No small fish came to the crab baits but we did catch four rays on the big baits. My two were 4lb 11oz and 4lb 12oz , Marks were bigger at 7lb 2oz and 6lb 11oz. we also lost one apeice. They came around high water to big lug and squid/mackerel cocktails on pennell rigs. nice to catch something that pulls back for a change!

First trip on the mersey for a couple of mounths due to loosing my job! So me and Kev braved the weather and as we thought had the hole wall to our selves. Not even the Bobbys wanted to get a soaking. We fished right up near the lock gates as the ships were going out further up river. Thought we had an outside chance of a Thorney or a Doggy, so put a Long and Low rig out at range with Sandeel and a three hook pat right down the side. This rod was bouncing from the moment it hit bottom, but no show on the Sandeel. We had Plenty of whiting and a few dabs between us, but most were under size!!! Great fun on the light tackle down the side....

I didn't fish this match, but as is always the way, " I missed a good one". There were three good codling pulled out, the biggest being 58cms and about 4LBS, and the other two about 3 1/2LBS. A few good knocks missed as well. Apart from this, most had a few Dab. All the fish came from half way along the open section of wall, down to the lock gates. Just wish I was there with the camera....

Fished 2b4 and 1n 1/2 after....No fish caught just 2 nuisance Crabs...Ideal conditions, (nip in air, light breeze, calmer waters from day befores blow) just no damn fish...so so frustrating....not as good as about 5 years back where you just kept catching, (big n small) water might be cleaner, but the fish have cleaned out the place too... other fishermen down wall had a total of 2 very small flatties and a very small whiting.!!

18 of us fished match. Most of us fished with the wall infront of us. I think the entire lenghth of this section is know a tackle graveyard. Rigs on top of lost rigs have made it a nightmare down there. Lionel Swift did'nt complane. He ended up with 18 fish. Mainly Dabs, but also one or two big whiting caught on "Shellfish". Besides this there was one Codling caught, plus the odd Whiting and Dab. In general, it was very poor.Crabs are still striping baits. Weather man got it wrong, "It was blowing a hooley". Felt sorry for the boat lads that thought the weather report looked good. Dont think they would have mist much anyway!!!

I had 2 flatties and 2 underzized codling (no whiting) my mates had pretty much the same apart from my m8s flattie was twice the size of mine. Not a bad night but I have had 10 times better. Be back again this week. I just wonder where all the big whiting have gone this year there are very few about.

Arrived at the wall to find best specs were taken, so we were left with the Rig Alley section, someone said there's a big chain in the river that snags everything?? As the night started we caught three good sized whiting between us, then I lost another rig, changed from a two hook to one hook which I had that gut feeling would not work, but still went ahead as you do. Then the wind started to whistle round the dock and within notime the weather changed, started to pack up early and the lightening started. Still got some time off work to enjoy a few days out.

Fished our first Fur and Feather. 27 of us turned out, the best since southport sea anglers was formed earlier this year!!! We kicked off at 6 PM and fished till 10. Should have had our match at Mariners, as the wall is fishing crap! The fishing didn't realy pick up till over high then rods started bouncing. Alot of big whiting were pulled out as well as the Dabs, but not a sign of a codling apart from one undersized fish. The crabs seem to be destroying the fishing. They certainly spoiled my day. The winner ended up with 14 fish for around 350cms. I seem to have the method sorted for the crabs!!! I caught a whiting at one stage with a "black eye" and a very big crab on the other end of the worm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fished the docks association match with the Southport lads. Drew B22 on the raised section of wall. Thought i'd drawn on the snags but was just to the right of them. The fishing is still very slow, but a few cod were caught up near the porter cabins, caught on peeler. I got into a few Dabs to 27cms and a few nice sized whiting up to 32cms, but it was quality not quantity that counted. Biggest cod was about 2Lbs 2oz. Biggest whiting was around 1Lb 5oz. About 4 guys had to share the biggest flat fish prize. I'd like to thank the guys who organised the even, right down to the food that was brought to your peg, cooked by the scranvan. A great day was had by all the Southport lads. Many thanks!!!

Sixteen of us from the BAE Systems Samlesbury Sea Angling Section fished Albert Docks from 09.00am till 15.00pm, fished low tide to high tide. All were fishing the above baits with various cocktails included. The match was won by a 4.5lb bag of flatties, whiting and a codling, winner being Alex Furey, a couple of whiting were I must say looked slightly under size, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Nice one Alex. The day was very slow and it was a pity there weren’t enough fish around; maybe it needs a cold snap to bring the cod in. Here’s hoping.

Fished from low to high total 6 1/2 hours, tide about 8.7 but very slow coming in, no movement to the tide, but great weather, and so the fishing, three of us with a total of 19 fish, six flaties and 13 whiting, disapointingly no cod. Club from Preston fished there comp, dont think they were very happy with there day, bring on the cold weather.

Just returned from the docks with 7 of the southport lads. Expected to see alot of people down there today, but I think the weather forcast probably put most of. Were are the cod and whiting? They should be coming out in numbers by know. There were some nice whiting caught today, but generaly its still a bit slow. Kev Gould got amoung a few decent whiting, seven to be exact. He also managed a nice codling of about 2LBD. Lional Swift also got amoung a few whiting and Dabs. He ended up taking second place. As usual I fed the crabs! I'm sure there on steroids, because they gave me some cracking knocks, pulling the rod down the walk at one stage. Result 2 whiting, and 25 crabs. 6 of them on one chuck!!!

Fished the wall from 6 o'clock till midnight. Start of the night was mild but over time the air chilled a bit which can only be good news. Anyway three whiting was our highest score for the night. Did get a shock at one point when I reeled in, me rod bent right over then as the rig lifted from the water I thought this as got to be good, as I lifted it over the wall there was not one but two rigs with weights attached. Didn't go home empty handed anyway.

Yet another gathering of the foolhardy southport crew, "well only seven of us to be exact". A couple of us fished the open wall and the rest went to the top end. As it turned out, this was the best area. I ended up with a whiting and a dab,putting back two just under sized whiting. Kev G who was fishing to my right got a nice codling of about 3Lbs within minuets of kickoff, "see picks". There was also another codling of about 2Lbs caught by Jay Swift next to the porter cabins at the top end. There was also a smatering of whiting and dabs for the rest, but the number of crabs about was fenominal. I brought, wait for it!!! no less than six crabs up on one bait. Yes, you hered me right. It was that bad. If it wasn't for the crabs, I'm shaw the fishing would be a hell of a lot better....

Lost no less than four rigs, including leaders, but managed to sneak out two insize whiting and a dab. How the hell I managed to win with these fish I dont know!!! From what I could gather, the fishing was pretty crap. There were quit a few good sized Dabs showing, and the odd decent whiting. But that was it. There was a codling of about 2Lbs caught just before we arrived, and as far as i know "that was that" as they say. If anybody knows of anything else decent been caught in the "mersey pirates" match, please let me know. It was a good day for Otis Reading though. I think this years christmas pressies were coming in....

Everyone seemed to do ok except myself (Blanked again) Peter had one of his better days with 14 caught, whiting and a flattie. Lug being the favourite bait of the day. Well done PETER !!!

Fished round three of southport sea anglers club match. Good turn out, "18 of us in all". I fished under the lights, past the open section of wall. Chucked one rod out at range with a pully pennall and sandeel, and one about 50yds with a loop rig and sections of sandeel on both hooks. No sooner had the close in rod hit the bottom the lead started bouncing down tide. At first i thought i'd not put enough lead on, but the other rod out at range was steady as a rock. So i picked the rod up to find solid resistance. I stupidly tried to dead lift the fish up the wall, and as they say the rest was history. I was gutted. Should have called for the drop net. I think it was a big ray. It snaped 15Lb line like cotton + i didn't have a long enough leader. I also had another fish bite clean through my 70Lb rig body with no problem, (probably a conger). I ended up with 6 Doggies for around 350cms. Doggies were crawling up every bodies rods. I've never seen so many. The winner ended up with about a dozen doggies and a nice ray of about 5Lbs.He had about 550cms. There was also a good number of in size whiting coming out. Signs are looking good for there influx... I'd also like to say that the wall is fishing well all along and that there is room for every one. There was plenty of room up at the top end were i was fishing and no need to fish on top of everyone. This just causes problems in the tide with crossed lines and the good fishing that we all enjoy in the mersey at this time of year gets spoilt by a few greedy anglers. Sorry no pics with this report.

lovely day,no wind ,calm sea .gulley had 2 rods out ,lager lout and me had one each .Started fishing about noon and got afew knocks early on ,then had to wait for a couple of ships to go out then in to the lock, put the rods out again and nothing . it was approaching 6pm and lager louts mouth was getting dry so he packed up and i dropped him off (pub )iwent back with some dinner for me and gulley and we fished untill about 10pm and didnt even get a bite .never known it to be so dead .we should have gone the pup with lager lout.

SSAC match. About ten members turned out for round 3. Our first match on Alex wall and expectations were pretty high. It was a very slow start for the first 2 hours with the expected crabs of course stripping baits in seconds. I caught a nice Doggy of around 3Lbs, 2 hours in and that was it till about 1.30. Then a few doggies start to show along the wall. We finished with 5 doggies, a Thorney of about 7Lbs, A Dab, and a smattering of pin whiting. Looking forward to our next match here in a month as its a night match and should be interesting!!!

Then the the Thornies showed up 4 for myself Biggest 7lb smallest 4lb.M8 had three between 4 and 6lb and lost a bigger one bringing It up the wall.They where there right through the tide.Packed up at high and headed home .Great to be back on this venue.Hopefully we'll get access to more of the dock estate soon!

I managed to tag along on a trip arranged by Richie Burrows. It wasnt't the best of sessions but everybody caught fish. Whiting, Dabs and Codling were the main species caught. The best Codling was 3lb 5oz. The Whiting caught were mostly just In size and the Dabs were just your normal run of the mill fellers. Still It was good to get back on the docks,hopefuly this venue will be opened up again soon!

Met up with a few before the "Last Cast" fihed from 11am - 4pm, not i bite nor a fish to my rod, but i reckon that has more to do with me only baiting up 3 times !! - i was wandering around talking to the lads that had turned up to fish the last session on the Alex and Seaforth, it is a pity that this venue has been lost due to restrictions, but it is a disgrace that the NWASAC allowed the venue to go without so much as a farewell !! for 22 years they have collected monies from the sale of pass's to fish the area, this has allowed them to support other events, as well as allowing them to fight other corners, yet they let these venues go without a goodbye.

We arrived at 7-30 amfished the tide up from infront of the locks until high tide 9-30 am As we started to clear away 11-00am two porpoise were coming up the river and turned into the lock. As the NORBANK had not long left the lock we informed the lock keeper what was in the lock's he said there was another one that had got into the lock in the week and they had'nt as yet caught it, but he would leave the gate open so that they could return out to the river O' yes we caught a flatty & a couple of whiting.So who said the river is dirty. Seeing these visions swimming in the river makes me feel proud of the hard work that has gone into cleaning the river up.

Ventured out for the first time since January, Got to say the venue was incredibly clean for once. Bait was some 6 month old frozen lug and squid, got a small plaice first cast and 4 or 5 dabs followed, was getting a bite a cast but struggled to hit them.r Surprisingly didn't get much crab trouble except for the rod i put out with a big bait which came back stripped every time.

fished 1 hour before high water first off tried 2 hook clipped down whith lugworm and squid on separate hooks no bites so changed to just one big lugworm on both hooks and cast out much further about 120 yards got first bite missed it what a surprise so rebated whith another 2 lugworm cast out same distance got a bite waited a bit longer struck and reeled in a 1b whiting then had another bite about 20 minutes later caught a smaller whiting missed another 2 bites so changed to sandeel on both hooks and found a sand bank a bit of a way out just to my right eversince then got bites bites and more bites but what a surprise missed em all must of been me hooks siz1 might be a bit to small and just to say thanks to the kind gentleman who gave me the maccy and the the sandeel

I set out @ 11.30pm went to the Beach got myself a Few fresh worm. Left S/Port Beach @ around 1.30am and slowly drove to the Alex wall. Arrived about 2ish and High I think was 6.45am but I only stayed till 5am. On arrival @ Alex wall ( bearing in mind it's my second time @ this venue 1st time was last Friday and fishing was excellent) it looked like a WAR Zone. It was pouring down with rain and the mess from Anglers is beyond words wasn't like this last Firday anyway read my report on the FORUM. Set up casted out with Fresh Lug on using a 1 up 1 down rig size 2 hooks straight away I was into a nice Whiting. Plenty of small Flatties to be had and a mixed bag of Whiting only me here and I couldn't go wrong excellent fishing @ this time now.

Fished 2 hours down and 30 minutes after. 1 small Whiting after about 30 minutes on a Long Range Pennell 3.0 hooks. Decided to switch to a 1 up 1 down size 2.0 hooks and straight away I had 1 1LB whiting and a nice sized Flatty. Baited up and well from here couldn't go wrong more whiting about a 1LB again and bags of Flatties I threw many back. My m8 had a good afternoon also plus a good few many more anglers all catching.r r This was our 1st time @ this venue and I listened to Big Kev's Directions and he was bob on cheers Laaaaa :)r r We can't wait to get back to this venue over the weekend sometime.

Fished the latest of the WSF Winter League matches at the above venue. Not a bad turnout, 24 anglers fished. Myself i caught 10 Whiting, only 2 above the 30cm size limit, but did'nt bother weighing in when i saw the large returns of most other people. Still it was good to be catching some fish. Basic 1 up 1 down rig with size 1 hooks was used by myself. At last things are starting to look up on the Mersey, happy fishing, LJ.

went fishing friday night with m8s had bites all night plenty of crabs and 50 whiteing to 4 of us all catched is it me or are the dock board playing games as i see that the trailers have suddenly apeared at my favourite fishing spot next to wall as tho to stop fishing there but to no probs mateys as there is no need to cast we still fished it but one thing i must say that the wall resembled a rubish dump i fear it wont be long before the harbour board take action to stop fishing there why some peeps do this i dont know why as it dont take long to pick up a few bits and put them in a bin or bag and take them home warning folks this same thing happend at morcamb and resulted in the loss of fishing rights and the only person it will hurt is you with the loss of a good fishing spot act now before its to late as places of this kind are hard to come by these days............(ps) i cleaned up after myself and so did m8s look foward to next trip....... r

Not fished the Wall all summer so thought I would give it a go, got on wall at 0600, 1hour before low and fished the full flood.r This was the best fishing I have had off the wall catching every chuck, I must admitt the bait was good but so was the fishing, in total 25 whiting.r My only mistake was not using my drop net for the biggest Whiting I have seen, pulling it up the wall and it shook its head and dropped off. Never mind I will get it next week

went fishing on alexandra dock wall sat night after a bad night friday at blackpool to use up bait and what a difference. got ther a hour before low tide cast in could only have been thirty secs and a distinctive nod of the rod signaled what turned out to be the night of all nights. for the next three hours fishing was bedlam and thats no exageration i got a total of 43 whiting son got 37 whiteing and two dabs on ragworm its been 2 yrs since i fished wall and its safe to say i will be doing more we had minimall tackle loss i lost one weight and pat and one crack off son also lost one pat as i seem to remember the spot we fished was known for tackle loss so i put lead lifts on and wound in for my life lol one thing tho i can go to work with a smile on my face monday and tell both my fishing m8s who went friday to blacpool about the trip oooo the joy of it sorry big and little john you missed it m8s.

fished high tide this morning with big kev, nice weather with a bit of a breeze, both of us catching whiting steadily throughout session, mainly to small hooks and little bits of mak, tried a big bait out at distance from time to time for the rays with no luck :(

Fished from the far left end of the main wall from 8.30am til 12 noon,with Big Dave.Not a lot to show for our efforts....big mack/crab baits were being taken apart by crabs,so we changed to scratching gear and small mack baits to tempt a few small whiting...6 for me and 4 for Dave.Good crack,good weather,good morning.

Blanked. Fished 2 up 1 down (HT 21:30 7.5m). Very strong North-Westerly wind made fishing difficult. Fished big bait coctails on a pennel trying for my first Thorny. Four other lads fished for about an hour and packed in.

2 first's for me.r Thornback ray of about 6lb on Peeler and squid, Next cast a doggie on the other rod on sandeel. Plenty of knocks but nothing coming from them, until i hit a small whiting. Quite a nice change to catch fish for once

High Tide was at 3-30pm arrived 1-15 pmr Very sunny day wind very slow. Had plenty of stripping going on from the whiting and just on slack water the tip slams down, played with it for r 5 minutes and just has the main line clip touched the surface : snap : cut off from the bottom hook. The line was frayed . Fished on the wall 3 b4 and 1 after Hi tide. r r 2 Rods for me and 2 for my brother, both fishing at range and one short. 2 hook flapper short and clipped down pennel at range.r r No bites that i saw, but it was windy and i fluked 2 small whiting on the short rid, to stop my run of blanks ( at last).r r Next bloke down did have a small Thornie, but no one else caught from all accounts

fished today on the wall as i had a day off,was going to fish arnside but father didnt fancy digging creeper at 8:00am.didnt expect much at alex with the baits we had but knew there was a chance of the odd small ray,after a very slow start,1hr 20mins before high water my dad had a very strong bite which pulled the lead out then headed up the river after a really good fight which made us follow it down the wall for 40 odd yds,the fish which we thought was a good conger surfaced beneath the wall,to our amazement it was the biggest thornback ray i have ever seen ,having caught rays before to 12lb from the shore we both estimated it in the region of 20lb ,with not having a drop net available we tried to lift it clear of the water only to have the snood break like cotton,it may seem hard to believe but it is true its just one of those experiences that tend to happen every now and again.

15 rods fished club match all along the wall in a westerly hooligan talk about windswept it took its toll on the fishing too results were 1st Barry Lavender 76cm dab and whiting 2nd Dave Irvine 74cm 3 whiting 3rd John Brasier 54cm 2 whiting and fish of the day was a thornback ray wing to wing was 41cm caught by kirby John Rawlinson.

Fished from 9.30am to 12 noon (low water 10.30am) at "dickhead corner".First 4 casts produced 4 double headers of dabs,then as the run went off,the fish stopped feeding.After an hour of feeding the crabs,the action started again with another couple of dabs plus 1 whiting.Fish there while there`s tidal movement with peeler and you`ll bag up.

Around the middle of the Wall trying to hide from the southerly breeze... Landed whiting first cast... then steady response of the same up to high water, inc. a fine plump dab. Bites died away as the ebb started to run... then as it eased towards midnight a few bites returned. By then, too cold to continue, but evening had become nice and still. Noticed that whiting were coughing up shrimp and sprats!!r r Crackov

Decided to have a chuck at the end of the wall, 1 b4 and 1 after. 3 whiting and about 20 Dabs all returned, all on straight lug on a size 1, didnt get a touch if tipped it with anything - got a report of a small conger (3.5lbs) caught the previous night, fella went back today to get some more !!! he was fishless when i left him

Fished with Big Dave, his first trip out sea fishing for 20 years. Was a bit windy for this mark, but had a go anyway. First chuck I snagged up and lost the lot, while Dave dragged in a flattie. The writing was on the wall, it finished me 1 whiting, Dave 1 Flattie 3 whiting. Still was made up that Dave caught, think he has got the old sea angling bug again.

After an abortive attempt at Seaforth Rocks arrived at the wall only to see waves and spry regularly topping the wall at the bottom end !!!! Went to the very bottom of the wall slightly higher section - fished for an hour seen 1 bite and got a flattie, didnt see the next bite but reeled in a small whiting. After that unable to hold bottom due to wind and tide going out - Waited all week for that what a dissapointment

From 7.30pm to Midnight, steady whiting and flatties, but only taking the worm. Nothing big, bites always in phases, only smallish baits presented. Fellow anglers showing much the same form. Pleasant sport.

Fished from about 3.30pm till 9ish. Two small whiting and 3 decent dabs. Very slow fishing. Saw a couple of decent cod come off the rocks (2.5-3.5lb) but there wasn't room to swing a cat on the rocks so moved round to the Alex wall.

Having left Seaforth rocks, fished this area with Robo and Dave W, the fishing was easier and we were in to the fish striaght away, Dabs and Whiting provided the main catch using 1 up and 1 down rigs with size 1 hooks, lost a good sized fish on the wall as robo did not want to get his drop net wet !! but what the hell, Kev , Iain, David & Colin arrived for the last hour with Colin picking up a 3lb Codling on the last chuck.

To say it had a slight nose to it would be an understatement! Anyway, fished from 7.45pm till about 11.30, got 6 whiting 4 in size 2 under (all returned ok) and two decent flatties for the outlaws frying pan. Not a bad night all in all. Only problem was the amout of time wasted due to LOADS of ships deciding to get one last trip in before XMAS! But were is my cod, Webmaster should know he saw it last! lol

Tide was running rally strong so we sat around for a while waiting for the run to subside. i should have gone home then, as i had the same result, BLANK. Still better to be out fishing than doing nothing in the house.

I fished a rising tide which three hours in produced a 2lb Thornback. An hour later an identical fish was hoisted up the wall. Both fish were returned. I had expected little from what can be a poor summer venue but this is exciting fishing , it makes you wonder just what the next bite may bring.

Well 9 of us turned up for an afternoons fishing. The fun got underway about 4pm, Steveh first off the mark with a whiting, then Mavrik hooked into a nice sized eel. After that the fishing was pretty grim for the 5hrs we were there. My own scores on the doors were, 1 small whiting and 1 small dab. Still had a few laughs as normal, even though the fishing was grim. LJ.

Big Kev and myself fished this venue 2 hrs either side of low. the weather could'nt make it's bloody mind up, lashing it down one minute, glorious sunshine the next. Anyway the scores on the doors were. Big Kev 1 Plaice, 1 Dab and 3 small whiting ??? LOL (kev knows what i mean.) I caught 1 Eel and 1 Dab. As usual the fun bus had it's share of laughs, heard that a Thornback had come out further along the wall, but the bloke lost it trying to get it up the wall. Tight lines everyone, LJ.

Was persuaded out tonight by a nutter who said it was'nt too windy in Liverpool. Got there and it was fishable when we arrived, though a huge ship arrived at the same time we did, and was having massive problems entering the dock, even with 3 tugs help due to the wind. By the time the tugs had stopped arseing around ( an hour later), the weather had started picking up again and soon became unfishable. Only a couple of whiting and dabs between us, though we missed a couple of fantastic bites Chris D

A break in the gales we have been having, so we went to fish the wall. using a new bait, softback crabs, works out cheaper than worms! but the going was not to be, so couldn't tell if the crabs works or not, few little bites, put it on with mackerel tip, every time the rig came back and the crab was nearly gone, the tip mackerel untouched! the crabs come from aboard, frozen, cost £16 for 17-18 large sizes ,you get three baits a crab. Arrived at The Alexandra Dock Wall just before Low, plenty of Anglers already fishing. Odd Whiting and Dab to Smelly Black tipped with Mackerel, but as the tide pushed in the numbers of fish grew. About 3 hours before High my friend landed a nice Codling of 2.5 pounds, but sadly this was the only Codling. We totally lost count of the number of fish caught, which makes this an excellent venue for a good confidence boost! The only thing that spoiled the day, was the sight of old line and rubbish. WAKE UP LADS!!!!!! This is one mark that can be closed without any notice! Good Hunting Harold
